Based on this principle, Outisan team has been continuously developing and investing in the technologies behind the e-Wagons, ensuring absolute safety for users, both visible and invisible. The key to making e-Wagons smart lies on the a complete set of sensor systems and control algorithms.
From a user’s perspective, the most obvious safety features are downhill speed control and hand-off protection, which makes it easier to navigate challenging terrains. When descending a slope with a heavy load, due to inertia, the traditional camping wagon will accelerate, forcing the user to quicken their pace and run downhill, which can be quite dangerous. We have also seen another situation where people reverse the direction of the wagon, with the tail facing down and the person pulling the handle at the front, making the wagon to slide downwards, but this is both labor-intensive and difficult to control.
This long-existing problem is effectively solved with the Outisan e-Wagons. The dual motors are capable of generating strong torque, and through motor locking or reversing, they can easily decelerate on slopes, allowing users to descend slowly at a suitable speed and worry free. This requires the sensor system to obtain information about the wagon’s posture, knowing whether the wagon is going uphill or downhill, and then giving proper instructions to the motor based on the user’s pulling or pushing force. Empowered by the FlowStride control algorithm, the Outisan e-Wagons becomes smart, knowing exactly how to follow user movement.
Hand-off protection is another feature that users will experience on a high frequency, and many users treat it as an electric brake. We believe that true hand-off protection does not mean that when the user releases the handle, the motor simply stops operating, and the wagon itself still slides forward due to inertia, as this still poses a collision risk. Outisan’s control logic is that when the user releases the handle, regardless of whether the e-Wagon is moving forward or backward, the motor will operate in the opposite direction to ensure that the existing inertia is offset and then the wagon stops immediately in place. If the handle is released on a steep slope, the e-Wagon will slide very slowly to a flat surface, ensuring that the user has enough reaction time and avoiding acceleration-induced collisions.
In the unseen areas, we have added more safety redundancy to the products. For example, the front wheel arm, which is frequently subjected to impacts, has been heat-treated to increase its strength, making its hardness comparable to that of a household drill bit. The side folding components are made of zinc alloy, which can withstand more than 60 pounds of impact force, preventing an empty wagon from folding during continuous bumps.
Electric wagons are complex outdoor tech products that require strong R&D, design, and supply chain management capabilities. Even nearly two years after the launch of the Outisan e-Wagon Ultra, it’s still the only one on the market with the two core safety features mentioned above. In the Air model, we have made further upgrades, making it even safer and more reliable. Just like EVs, it is relatively easy to make the car move, but whether or not there are sensor systems and intelligent algorithms to enable the vehicle to achieve different levels of autonomous driving and active safety protection is what distinguishes different brands of EVs. We not only want to make motorized wagons, but also make them smart, giving our users an extra layer of protection and peace of mind!
