What Makes An Exceptional Electric Wagon?

Utility wagons have become indispensable tools for households. They blur the boundaries between home and nature, providing a versatile platform for various activities. However, traditional wagons have long suffered from a common set of limitations: requiring significant physical effort on inclines, controlling downhill speeds, or navigating rough terrains. 

 

Outisan has introduced a revolutionary solution to these problems by electrifying the utility wagon in 2022. By incorporating electric motors, batteries, and advanced control systems, we’ve transformed a simple, generic wagon into a high-performance, user-friendly e-Wagon that is more than capable of taking the weight off your shoulder.

The Electromechanical Components

While electric motors and batteries are often the first components that come to mind when discussing electric wagons, it’s the underlying sensor and control systems that truly set them apart. Just like a barrel is only as strong as its weakest stave, an electric wagon is only as good as its weakest component.

Motor(s): Generally, the users of an electric wagon is less likely to walk faster than 5 mph (8 km/h). So instead of focusing on high power output, which is more relevant for high-speed applications, we’ve prioritized high torque. This enables Outisan wagons to effortlessly tackle steep inclines and provide reliable braking on descents, which are the most challenging scenarios for an electric wagon. Our dual in-wheel brushless hub motors not only ensure precise control and minimal noise, but also guarantee IP66 waterproof rating and minimal maintenance needed. 

 

 

Battery Pack: Unlike some market players who repurpose a small power bank to support their electric wagons, Outisan employs high-discharge-rate cells specifically designed for power tools. These cells can deliver maximum power on demand, allowing the motors to generate its highest output even when climbing steep hills or traversing rough terrain. Electric wagons often cross obstacles, so the battery pack also needs to deal with external shake and impact forces, which are all on the top of Outisan’s quality check-list. 



 

Sensor and Control System: Whether the electric wagon is smart or not, depending on its sensor and control system. Other than Outisan, most of the electric wagons available on the market can’t even adjust its speed according to the user walking speed in real time, making the steering less intuitive. All Outisan wagons are equipped with advanced sensor systems that provide real-time data on speed, force, torque, power, temperature and battery status. This information is fed into the FlowStride smart control algorithm, which automatically adjusts motor output to optimize performance and safety. Features like hill descent control and hand-off protection ensure a smooth and controlled ride, even in challenging conditions.

 



Safety First

We believe that a truly exceptional electric wagon must be equipped with advanced sensors and intelligent control algorithm. These systems enable the wagon to perceive its surroundings and respond to user action accordingly, ensuring optimal performance and safety.

For instance, our Ultra model utilizes a gyroscope to detect whether the wagon is traveling uphill, downhill, or on a flat surface. This data is used to adjust motor output, providing additional power on inclines, engaging electric brakes on descents, and maintaining a steady speed on flat terrain. 

Our Air model takes this a step further with a newly developed bi-directional torque sensor. This sensor detects both pulling and pushing forces, allowing the wagon to provide power assistance when being pulled and to brake or reverse when pushed. This intuitive design results in a more responsive and user-friendly experience.

 

 

In contrast, electric wagons without sensors and algorithm, while capable of providing uphill assistance, may lack critical safety features like downhill speed control and runaway prevention. It’s akin to driving a car without airbags, requiring much additional caution in emergency situations.
